DAY 1: ...... (LIMA) /
IQUITOS /
PACAYA
SAMIRIA AMAZON LODGE (L-D)

We start our adventure of the Peruvian forest at the
Iquitos City Airport, from there we will transport
in a modern and comfortable air-conditioned minivan
traveling on a nice highway to the town of Nauta,
the first township founded by the Spanish at the
Marañón River’s bank. The trip takes approximately
1h 30', a 97 km journey.

In Nauta, we next travel by lodge-owned boats to
visit the Ucayali and Marañón River, where the
Amazon River is born; from here we have a
spectacular sight of the forest viewed from the
height of a 100 foot high watching tower, where we
are free to take magnificent photographs and videos
of the immense Amazon River. The visitors will maybe
observe Herons, birds of prey and various other
birds that make their homes on the shores of the
river, we will have an opportunity to see the Black
Skimmers, next we will go on with our trip to the
lodge for lunch.

After a recovering rest, we will walk by footpaths
on the surroundings of the lodge and will go up to
the viewpoint, an ideal place to observe birds on
the canopy of the trees. We will look for observing
the Paradise Tanager, Hooded Tanager, Opal-crowned
Tanager, Masked Crimson Tanager, Pen--throated
Cotinga, and several species of Flycatchers. Parrots
like the Canary-winged Parakeet, Short-tailed Parrot
and luckily, Blue-and-yellow Macaw.

Dependant on nigh time climate conditions, we will
make an excursion by boat to observe night animals
and insects; also enjoyable is hearing the various
sounds that comes from the forest, later we will be
back to the lodge for dinner and resting.
DAY 2, 3 and 4: LODGE /
PACAYA
SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE
/ LODGE (B-L-D)

At dawn, after breakfast, we will board and sail
across the Marañón River to explore during the
following days, the Pacaya Samiria NR and we will
enter trough the basin of the Yanayacu River,
this zone has been recently opened for tourism and
is extremely rich in birds, (there are 449 different
species properly catalogued), flora and fauna. It
will also be possible to be observed Pink and Gray
Dolphins, Turtles, different species from Primates,
Sluggish Bears etc. Besides the birds, we will
observe diverse types of Kingfishers, like the
Amazon, Ringed-Green Rufous Kingfisher, and the
spectacular Amnerican Pygmyl Kingfisher, Wattled
Jacanas and Anhingas. We will see the Tanagers,
Aracari Chesnut-eared, Woodpecker Crimson-crested,
Cotinga Spangled, Lemon-throated Barbet, Jacamar
White-eared, Donacobius Black-cappet.

We will sail through lagoons and hidden rivers in
the wilderness, and will walk across open footpaths
in the forest in search of the Horned Screamer,
Black Collared Hawk, Jabiru Storks, Woodstorks,
Roseate Spoonbill, Piedlapwing and many more.

At noon, we will have our box lunch, that we will
eat in the shadow of the great trees of forest.

In the evening, we will continue with the search of
birds like the endemic one, Black Tailed Antbird,
Black Necked Network Cotinga, Gray Cheeked Nunlet,
Lettered and Ivori-billed Aracaris, Bar-breasted
Piculet, Black Bushbird Rofous Capped, Antthrush,
Tropical Gnatcatcher and the Yellow billed Jacamar
among others.

During the route we will visit a Native Community
to observe the lifestyle and daily activities of the
people, such as hunting, gathering, fishing or
agriculture; we can also collaborate with the
community development buying typical souvenirs hand
made by the natives, made of seeds and a vegetable
ivory called tagua, accommodation will be in tents
at the camp zone.

At night, we will walk across the forest, in search
of owls and night birds, or fish in the rivers and
look for black Caymans, depending on the wishes of
the guests.

On the 4th day after breakfast we will begin the
return to the lodge, we will have lunch and free
afternoon for relax and take a small hike around the
lodge.

At the end of the day we will rest and have dinner.
DAY 5 and 6: LODGE / ALLPAHUAYO MISHANA RESERVED AREA /
IQUITOS (B-L-D)

At dawn, and after breakfast, we will take the boats
to Nauta. There, a vehicle will be waiting for us,
and will drive us to the Allpahuallo Mishana located
12.5 miles from the city of Iquitos. During two
days, we will explore the reserve looking for birds,
some of them new for science, and different from
those of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve as
these are the Ancient Antwren, Mishana Tyralunnet,
Allpahuayo Antbird and Northern-chesnut Tailed
Antbird, in addition to other species like the
Gray-legged Tinamou (Nov-Sea), Rufous Potoo,
Cinnamon-crested Spadebill, Pompadour Cotinga and
the Cinnamon Tyrant-Manakin, among others.

Both days we will enjoy box lunches during our
excursion.

We’ll spend the nights in Iquitos City lodging in a
superior hotel 3 star class, where we will rest and
have dinner.
DAY 7: IQUITOS /
ALLPAHUAYO
MISHANA
/
IQUITOS / .....(LIMA) (B-L)

In the morning, after the breakfast in the hotel, we
will make a city tour, during the route we will
appreciate among other places, the “Main Square”,
the Iron House, the
District
of Belén, the Itaya River, visit to the
stores of native handicrafts etc.

Lunch, rest and transfer to the airport to take the
flight back to Lima.
CHECK LIST
Climate: The climate in the Reserve is tropical, warm and humid with
minimum temperatures of 72º F (22º C) and maximum temperatures that can reach up
to 88º F (28º C), except for the month of June in which the temperature can drop
abruptly due to the action of the cold fronts that come from the Argentinean
Patagonia. Generally, dawns and nights in the jungle tend to be fresh. It can
rain on any day of the year, being showers more frequent between the months of
February and May.
Vaccinations: It is recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever;
however it is not mandatory.

- Raincoat.
- Cap or hat.
- Sunglasses.

- Mosquito repellent with 35% DEET.
- Personal medicines.
- We recommend to bring one piece of luggage and to limit its weight to 15
kg (32 pounds).
